Optical Petrography Lab

The Department of Geology has a dedicated Optical Petrography Laboratory. All geology majors who are taking classes that require the
use of petrographic microscopes
have 24 hour access to the lab.
This laboratory has a variety of teaching microscopes (Zeiss,
Leica, Nikon, Olympus) as
well as a Leica DM/LP
research microscope
equipped with an
attached Sony HD
digital recorder and
camera, and a 40"
HDTV monitor for
high-resolution
digital photography.



  

In December 2009, we will be aquiring a RELION cathodoluminescence microscopy system (NSF MRI Award#0922942). This microscope will be available for use in Spring 2010. Fees for outside users will be $30/day, and use is limited to room availability.
