Dr. Raymond first joined the faculty of Appalachian State University in 1972 and retired as an active faculty member in 2007. He continues his research on the geology of the Southern Appalachian Mountain System and his work as a licensed geologist in North Carolina. Recent studies include studies of structure in the Grandfather Mountain Formation, petrotectonics of Blue Ridge ultramafic rocks, stratigraphy and structure of the Saltville and Broadford, VA 7.5' quadrangles, geologic hazards in Watauga County, and fracture traces and water well location in northwestern North Carolina.
